Gameplay

Objective

Take control of your nimble spaceship and survive the perils of deep space, where danger comes in the form of relentless asteroids and the calculated attacks of alien spacecraft. Your primary task is to clear the screen of all obstacles to advance to the next level, but survival isn’t your only goal. You’ll rack up points by blasting apart asteroids and taking down enemy spacecraft. Each wave grows progressively harder, with more obstacles and smarter enemies forcing you to adapt and refine your strategies. Exploit your ship's ability to wrap around the screen edges, dodge incoming fire, and plan your attacks carefully. The ultimate challenge is to balance risk and reward: push for high scores by taking out dangerous enemies like the alien spacecraft, or play it safe by focusing on survival. Either way, your reflexes, accuracy, and strategic thinking will be tested as you strive to dominate the stars and carve your name into the leaderboard of galactic champions.

Enemy Types

Asteroids are the most common foe you will encounter. They drift aimlessly, but their unpredictable motion and tendency to fragment upon destruction create a chaotic and ever-shifting battlefield. Larger asteroids break into medium fragments, and medium ones split into even smaller pieces, requiring you to stay on high alert. If the debris fields weren’t enough, alien spacecraft add a dynamic, intelligent threat. Small Saucers are quick and frequent, weaving erratically and firing sporadic shots to keep you off balance. Medium Saucers are sturdier and more calculated, while the mothership appears every 10 levels. With quadruple the firepower and blistering speed the mothership is a force to be reckoned with.

Scoring

Scoring is simple. You just shoot things! Larger asteroids are worth the least amount of points, but the smaller they become, the more points they are worth. Alien spacecraft are worth more points than asteroids, with each shot you land adding points to your total along with a load of bonus points once you defeat the spacecraft. Once your game is complete (or if you're simply just curious) you can navigate to the high scores page to see the top scores in a variety of categories! Keep in mind though, scores are only applied to the leaderboard if you are logged in to a user account. If you choose to play the game without logging in, your scores will only be tracked for the currently active game and will not be posted to the leaderboard.

Movement

The W or Up Arrow keys provide thrust for your ship allowing you to move forward

The A or Left Arrow keys rotate your ship left

The D or Right Arrow keys rotate your ship right

The S or Down Arrow keys instantly warp your ship to a random location on the screen. Use this when you're in a pinch and need to get out of there fast, but beware, you are not always safe when warping as you might just find yourself facing an unfriendly character!

The space bar key fires a projectile. You can fire up to 10 shots at a time, and the shot will reset once it hits an asteroid, an enemy, or it is no longer visible on screen

The chain lightning projectile is a special projectile that can be fired using the left shift key. Each chain lightning power up will provide you with three chain lightning projectiles. These numbers stack when collecting multiple chain lightning power ups

The homing missile is a special projectile that can be fired using the right shift key. Each homing missile power up will provide you with three homing missiles. These numbers stack when collecting multiple homing missile power ups

The escape key will pause the game. If you need to navigate to the main menu, need a rules refresher, or just need to gather your bearings, this key is the key to press!

Description

Asteroids are the relentless, tumbling fragments of cosmic rock that dominate the vast expanse of the galaxy. They drift aimlessly through space but pose a constant, deadly threat to your nimble ship. These enemies don’t actively pursue you but are unpredictable, as their motion is governed by inertia and their angles of travel.

Behavior

Asteroids loop around when they reach the edge of the screen, reappearing on the opposite side and never disappear until destroyed.
Asteroids come in various shapes sizes, and destroying one will split it into two smaller asteroids until they are too small to split.
Colliding with an asteroid results in immediate destruction of your ship, so making careful movement and shooting precisely is essential.

Strategy

Focus on clearing larger asteroids quickly to minimize fragmentation.
Stay mobile to avoid being cornered by a cluster of smaller debris.
Use the wrap-around nature of the screen to your advantage, evading by disappearing off one side and reappearing on the other.

Description

Saucers are advanced alien craft sent to destroy anything that threatens their dominion of the stars. These enemies are swift, precise, and relentless in their pursuit of obliterating your ship. They navigate the screen with calculated paths, only pausing to unleash devastating barrages of energy blasts. There are three distinct types of Saucers, each escalating the challenge as you progress:

Small Saucers: Quick, nimble, and frequent visitors to the battlefield. Their health is minimal, but their unpredictable flight patterns make them hard to hit.
Medium Saucers: Less common, but more robust and dangerous. They move deliberately, giving them a menacing presence, and require more hits to destroy.
Mothership: These massive vessels appear every 10 levels, signaling a formidable challenge. They unleash barrages with quadruple the firepower, and their shots are twice as fast, making evasion a life-or-death ordeal. They're so terrifying, even the asteroids are afraid to appear when the mothership enters the scene.

Behavior

Movement: Saucers fly erratically across the screen, only halting when firing. They can appear from any direction, adding unpredictability to their attacks. Small and medium saucers can move both horizontally and vertically, while the boss saucer is too large to move vertically, leaving it's range of movement limited to the horizontal axis.
Attack Patterns: Each Saucer pauses periodically to fire a precise barrage of shots aimed at your location, forcing constant movement and awareness. Boss Saucers' barrages are overwhelming, blanketing the screen with deadly fire.

Strategy

Small Saucers: Aim quickly and predict their movements to take them out before they escape or overwhelm you with numbers.
Medium Saucers: Stay mobile and anticipate their firing patterns to dodge and counterattack efficiently.
Mothership: Use every maneuver at your disposal. Clear the screen of smaller enemies beforehand to focus entirely on dodging and attacking the Boss Saucer. Exploit screen wrapping to reposition safely.

Twice the ships, twice the firepower! Grab this power-up to summon a second ship that mirrors your movements and fires alongside you for the next 30 seconds. With dual streams of firepower, clearing the screen of asteroids and taking down saucers has never been easier—or more satisfying!

Invincibility

Why dodge when you can dominate? Pick up this power-up to become completely invincible for 30 seconds. Smash through asteroids, shrug off saucer attacks, and turn the chaos of space into your playground without a scratch!

Explosion

Nothing says problem solved like a massive explosion! Grab this power-up to unleash a devastating blast that instantly clears all asteroids and enemy saucers from the screen. Wipe out the chaos in one fell swoop and advance to the next level with style!

Extra Life

One more chance to rule the stars! Grab this power-up to add an extra life to your reserves, giving you the opportunity to keep fighting and push your score even higher. Because sometimes, one more life is all you need to turn the tide!

Homing Missile

Take aim and let technology do the rest! Grab this power-up to equip your ship with homing missiles that automatically track and destroy the nearest target. Whether it’s an asteroid fragment or a pesky saucer, these missiles ensure nothing escapes your sights!

Chain Lightning

Unleash the storm! Grab this power-up to fire bolts of electricity that arc between asteroids and enemies, chaining through multiple targets in a dazzling display of destruction. Clear clusters of threats in one shot and watch the chaos electrify the battlefield!
